The winter sickness has finally caught up to me. It was inevitable I suppose, working in a hospital and having teenage children whose idea of hand washing is wiping there sneeze on their pants. That is what the boy does anyway.
Strep throat hit our house with my hubby last week, which lead to me getting it. The oldest daughter said I should really refrain from kissing him when he is sick and I laughed and informed her that after 16 years of marriage there isn't much kissing going on to begin with, much less when someone has strep. Ahhh the visions of love from a 21 year old. I think I will let her live in bliss for a while yet! Anyway back to the illness. Of course the week my hubby was home from work I waited on him hand and foot! I felt good to have someone to take care of at home. Well after days of this and then scrubbing the house from top to bottom with Lysol, of course I awaken to a very swollen uvula (HA! go on google it) I dragged my tired butt out of bed and proceeded to start my day like any other. Well the strep monster was having none of this! I had to call into work and stay home fighting fits of hot and cold. I could not sleep at night with the swollen floppy thingy (uvula..HA!) blocking off my air causing fits of snoring and snorting. After a few days, I starting taking some good ole penicillin and hoped I would feel better within a day or two! This was not to be, Friday arrived with still sore throat, pounding face, ear and some very nasty draining from my nose. I talked myself to going into my local clinic and having a rapid strep test done. As we were waiting for the results, I was also diagnosed with a nasty sinus infection. I was told that penicillin was not enough to fight this and my confirmed case of strep. So off we got to make a list for hubby to get when he stops for my meds.
After posting on Facebook my list of maladies, a friend suggested the use of a neti pot. Well I have heard of these devices but never used one. After a few more comments on the wonderfulness of this device I figured what the heck and added this to the list of items to pick up.
This is the kind I used.
NeilMed Pharmaceuticals - NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot:
Well this is a small device of water torture that is supposed to help clear the sinuses of yucky mucus. Well it sure did that but the idea that you are pouring water into your head is quite strange. Of course my first thought while I am doing this is..."Who the hell thought of this" What would possess someone to one day just start pouring water up their nose and HOPE that it comes out...I guess this is why I am not an inventor, just the user of many strange products and things that make you go hmmmm.

What's for Breakfast?!?!
Oh the question I hear every weekend!! My three kids are still snuggled in their beds but I know what will be said as soon as they rise and stumble into the world of the functioning and alive..."What's for Breakfast?" Breakfast is a weekend only thing here and I am sick of the standard pancakes and bacon. Wonder what we can make today that will be yummy and easy....off to Pinterest to see what kind of delicious concoction we can make. http://pinterest.com/jojolynb/
As the hubby is browsing, he loves to cook and bake by the way, I will tell you a bit about us. We love to make new things on the weekends, its our time together, and why not do it making something delicious. We love to eat, and I am not talking about twigs and berries. We cook with butter, cream cheese, real milk, all-purpose flour, sugar, and all the other "not good for you but oh so yummy" ingredients we can find. Life is about enjoying things and we enjoy eating!
Last weeks adventure was done alone because hubby came down with strep and was in bed, so I cleared the kitchen and started in on breakfast. I went with the pancakes and bacon theme but stepped out of the box and found a great recipe for Cinnamon Streusel Pancakes from Two Peas and Their Pod.

I put the bacon in the oven and started on the pancakes. Oh the wonderful aroma of these as they are cooking is almost sinful. I served everyone breakfast in bed that day and the first comments were "what IS this?" I ignored the strange looks and questions and told them to just eat it. After 10 minutes of complete silence I wandered through the house asking for thoughts on these huge, fluffy, tasty circles of yummyness. I was pleasantly surprised that ALL were in favor of these pancakes. This is a major feat in the house, so into the recipe box they went!
Give them a try for yourself and let me know what you think!
It's A Wonderful Life!
Welcome to my Blog!
This attempt at trying to put the humor of our busy lives into words is a first for me. How does one carry across the things in everyday life that make it interesting ("interesting" is how I justify my life so I don't lose it completely).
Well I will start with me and who I am and what I want to be when I grow up! My name is Jodi...I am a mother of 3 children and married for 16 years. That is the standard intro, boring right? My current goals are to have a clean house, kids who grow up to be successful at whatever they do, have a clean house, finish nursing school, have a clean house, and did I say...have a clean house!
I hope you see the recurring theme here! With teenagers, man, cats, dog and full-time nursing student we don't see much clean house!! I spend time on Pinterest looking for shortcuts, recipes, LOL moments, places to dream about and just to unwind my cranked up brain. I know this time could be better spent on...say...cleaning my house...but a girl has to have some downtime or she will be found clinically crazy instead of just medicated crazy!
I hope to give you a place to come and say, "Boy I am not the only one" or "WOW this chick is nuts" but in the end if it gives you a moment of downtime, well then my goal is complete.
I want to post ideas, recipes, shortcuts, tips and just humor that I find useful in everyday life I hope you come along for the ride into My Wonderful Life!
