In Sickness and In Health....

The winter sickness has finally caught up to me.  It was inevitable I suppose, working in a hospital and having teenage children whose idea of hand washing is wiping there sneeze on their pants.  That is what the boy does anyway.

Strep throat hit our house with my hubby last week, which lead to me getting it.  The oldest daughter said I should really refrain from kissing him when he is sick and I laughed and informed her that after 16 years of marriage there isn't much kissing going on to begin with, much less when someone has strep.  Ahhh the visions of love from a 21 year old.  I think I will let her live in bliss for a while yet!  Anyway back to the illness.  Of course the week my hubby was home from work I waited on him hand and foot!  I felt good to have someone to take care of at home.  Well after days of this and then scrubbing the house from top to bottom with Lysol, of course I awaken to a very swollen uvula (HA! go on google it) I dragged my tired butt out of bed and proceeded to start my day like any other.  Well the strep monster was having none of this!  I had to call into work and stay home fighting fits of hot and cold.  I could not sleep at night with the swollen floppy thingy (uvula..HA!) blocking off my air causing fits of snoring and snorting.  After a few days, I starting taking some good ole penicillin and hoped I would feel better within a day or two! This was not to be, Friday arrived with still sore throat, pounding face, ear and some very nasty draining from my nose.  I talked myself to going into my local clinic and having a rapid strep test done.  As we were waiting for the results, I was also diagnosed with a nasty sinus infection.  I was told that penicillin was not enough to fight this and my confirmed case of strep.  So off we got to make a list for hubby to get when he stops for my meds.

After posting on Facebook my list of maladies, a friend suggested the use of a neti pot.  Well I have heard of these devices but never used one.  After a few more comments on the wonderfulness of this device I figured what the heck and added this to the list of items to pick up.

This is the kind I used.
NeilMed Pharmaceuticals - NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot:

Well this is a small device of water torture that is supposed to help clear the sinuses of yucky mucus.  Well it sure did that but the idea that you are pouring water into your head is quite strange.  Of course my first thought while I am doing this is..."Who the hell thought of this"  What would possess someone to one day just start pouring water up their nose and HOPE that it comes out...I guess this is why I am not an inventor, just the user of many strange products and things that make you go hmmmm.
